Sorry for not coming back sooner, life has been hectic here!
As I told you, I had an interview for a director position at a very nice daycare. That was yesterday at 1:30. I prepared so much I could recite my answers in my sleep. Then, they didn't ask me any of those questions! All of my interviews in the past have been the "typical" questions like what could you bring to this organization, what are your best and worst qualities, etc. They just mostly asked about my past experiences and also my teamwork abilities. I think it went well, but honesltly they were hard to read. They smiled and nodded and mmmhmmmed along with my answers and took notes. They were friendly, but I didn't get an overwhelming "we want you!" vibe. They are supposed to let me know something by the end of the week.
On my way home yesterday, I got another phone call for a 3rd grade position at a local charter school. She wanted to set up a phone interview. I had that yesterday at 4pm. We were on the phone for over 1/2 hour talking about my experience and "what if" type situational questions. She asked me to come in this morning at 9am to fill out an application (had emailed her my cover letter/resume) and tour the school and give a brief demonstration of a math and reading lesson. I typed up an outline last night (graphing lesson and synonyms) and was ready to go. I got there around 8:45 and the application alone took until 9:15 to fill out! It was 14 pages, with 4 of those pages being "short essays". Ridiculous if you ask me. Anyways, then I met with the CAO (principal essentially) and the curriculum director. Both were friendly, but the CD was much more friendly. We interviewed, I gave my presentations, and asked some questions. I toured the school and she said she'd also be getting back with me this week. Their school started yesterday so they have title 1 teachers in the unfilled positions right now. She "only wants to hire the best because it is a very very challenging position". From what I gather, most of the students are there because they couldn't succeed in the public school systems. The downfall to this school is that it is in a sketchy part of town...
My thoughts: I'd love the opportunity for interview #1. I'm not necessarily the most qualified, but they must have seen something they liked to call and interview. I reinterated that I'm a hard worker, willing to learn and willing to put my whole heart into it. Job #2 scares me a little. I'm all for a challenge, but this school is in a state of academic emergency and has been since 2006. That's scary as far as the stability of the position goes. IF I were offered both, I'd take the first. If I was only offered the second, I'd consider but probably stay in WV another year and try again next summer.
Ahhh, the life of an elementary teacher. STRESSED!!
