6 Months

Dear Nolan,

Happy half birthday!!!!! On one hand, it seems like you've been in my life forever. On the other, I can't believe how fast 6 months has flown by! You are such a spirited, adorable, happy, on-the-go little boy now and I'm enjoying it so much. I know I've said this every month but this age is seriously SO FUN. You are mostly always happy. You've settled into more of a routine. You enjoy playing indepently (but still prefer a play partner). You laugh and smile constantly. You love your Momma, that's one thing no one can deny. And I'll take it because I'm quite sure that there's going to come a day (hopefully a looooong time from now) when you don't need me quite as much.

You weigh 16 pounds 13 ounces, and are 25.5 inches long. You are wearing mostly 12 month clothes and your cloth diapers are set to the medium size. You are a pretty "average" sized baby on the growth charts... aka PERFECT. ;)

This month was SO exciting in terms of your development. You've tried more foods. We've tried avacado (hated), bananas (love), sweet potatoes (like), and apples (LOVE). Next on the list is peas and green beans! You will eat the above foods alone, but you still prefer them mixed with your oatmeal, but that's okay! You are super picky about the temperature of your food and the texture. Anything too cold or too chunky, we may as well forget it. I even had to puree your bananas because just mushing them didn't cut it. You also started sitting unassisted at 5.5 months exactly. You are still a little wobbly from side to side, but you're learning. If you lean just a little you can get back up, but if you tilt too far then down you go. It doesn't seem to phase you too much though, and we try to be there to catch your tumbles.

This month brought a big change in our routine. Your grandma had ankle surgery and needed me to help her out with the kids she babysits. So, we get up early every morning and head over and hang out with about 6 other kiddos all day long. The first week or so was rough because your naps were messed up and you didn't enjoy the new day routine but you quickly got used to it. This is good news because when I go back to work, she'll be your babysitter. So, it's good that you'll be used to her and the kids. You love watching them play and taking it all in. I hope you only soak up the good stuff. ;)

Since you have been around kids so much more, you also experienced your first cold. Luckily that's all it was but let me tell you, that was hard enough! I had to sleep with you on my arm, on a pillow so you'd be at an incline. I had to suction your nose multiple times a day. I took you to the doctor to make sure it wasn't anything more than a cold because you just weren't yourself. It lasted about 10 days total and I was sure glad to see it leave! Now you're a happy baby again and that's wonderful.

This month we celebrated Valentine's Day. Grandma got you a dancing/singing monkey and you love to watch it. You and your dad sent me roses and chocolate. Thanks baby! :) You were awfully cute in your Valentine's Day outfit, even though that was right in the middle of your cold.

I started exploring my love of photography towards the end of this month and have decided to start a business. That means I'm going to be leaving you from time to time with your dad or grandma. I'm sure you'll be just fine but I don't like it!

Well little buddy, you've truly made our lives incredible over the past 6 months. Life before you doesn't even compare. We love each second we spend with you and can't wait to see what the next 6 months bring. We love you more each second of the day.

Love always,

Mommy
