Two Months Old

Dear Adelyn and Delaney,

Two whole months old!! It seems like just yesterday that I found out I was pregnant with you but at the same time it seems like you've been in our lives forever. Time is a funny thing. I've sat down to write this letter about a dozen times now and never get very far. Partially because you keep me so busy during the days that all I want to do after you go to bed is go to bed myself! And also partially because I can't put into words the way I feel right now and have a hard time portraying to you what I would like you to remember about this time.

When I was pregnant with you I was terrified. I was scared of how our lives would change, I was scared of having 3 kids under the age of 17 months, I was scared of being able to take care of 2 newborns but mostly I was scared that I wouldn't have enough love to give to you both. I was so wrong. I don't know HOW it happens exactly, but the very second you were born my heart tripled in size. I love you both more than words can explain and that love grows each and every day. So someday when you are having babies of your own, remember that, okay?

Grandma is still watching Nolan for me most days so I am spending a lot of time with the two of you. If I were working, I would still be on maternity leave since I had a c-section so it's been very nice to have this time to bond with you. Our day usually starts around 8am with a feeding. After that you get clean diapers and clothes then we come out to the living room and you usually lay in your pack & play and talk to each other and the mobile while I grab a quick breakfast, brush my teeth, etc. It doesn't take long until you're tired again. Sometimes you'll fall asleep in there, other times I move you to your swings. And sometimes I hold you both on the recliner and let you nap on my chest. You eat again at 11, 2, and 5. In between we alternate between talking/playing together, tummy time, playing on the floor mat, and swinging. Your dad and brother get home around 5 and Nolan always comes over to give you kisses. He loves you both VERY much. Around 7:30 or so you eat one last time before bed then get pj's, we turn your music on, swaddle you and put you in your beds where you drift off to sleep. Most nights you only wake up once- around 4am. This is heavenly! I'm looking forward to the days when you sleep the entire night... but until then, I am totally okay with one wake-up. :) I truly enjoy my time with you two. :)
This month brought new developments such as more social smiles (so stinkin' cute!!), much more attentive time during the day, tracking with your eyes, seeing better across the room, holding your heads up when you're being held (though you still don't like tummy time) and more independence- you'll let me put you down! Just for a little bit though. ;)
Adelyn, you weigh 9 pounds 15.5 ounces and are 23" long. You are such a smiley girl. You smile in your sleep and you smile when just about anyone talks to you. You like to be close to your sister and will often fall asleep with your arm on top of her or entertwined with hers. You love to snuggle, hate riding in the car and like to be without clothes. You love bathtime but aren't a huge fan of getting your hair washed. You tolerate it but sometimes get fussy. You like to eat first and protest when things don't go your way (like if your sister wakes up first and gets to go first)! You are a very sweet baby and I love you so much. :)

Delaney, you weigh 9 pounds 13.5 ounces and are 24" long. You are a charmer! You look at people with those big beautiful blue eyes and they instantly fall in love. And then you smile and melt people's hearts. You love attention and prefer to be held... though you also tolerate short periods of being alone. You really like to watch the mobile or ceiling fan. You're a sweetheart and I love you so much. :)

You're both very very similar. In fact, the more you grow the harder it is to tell you apart! You have differences in your personalities but even those are becoming more similar these days. Your physical differences are how most people tell you apart. Delaney, you have three birthmarks- your right hip, right foot and the back of your neck. You also have a cowlick in the middle of your head which is how I can quickly tell you from your sister. I haven't mixed you up yet in real life but there have been a couple of pictures where I've had to really look to see who is who!

Sweet girls, I thank God for bringing you into our lives. He knew exactly what He was doing when He gave us you. I had doubts (crazy me!) but I certainly don't now. You are exactly what our family was missing and we love you to the moon and back and alllllllllllllways will. Smooches sweet babies, Momma loves you.

Always,
Momma
