One Month

Dear Nolan,

Oh my goodness, time is flying by already! I knew it would but my newborn baby is already "growing up." Your dad looked at you the other day with a sad face and said "he looks like a little boy already instead of a baby." And how true it is.

The first month hasn't been without it's challenges, for sure. First, we dealt with your jaundice and keeping you hooked up to the walloby blanket for 4 days. That was less than ideal but we managed. Then, we tried to get the whole breastfeeding thing down. You sometimes were a champ and others thought it would be more fun to "bite" than suck. We managed through that too. For a couple weeks you were such a great sleeper! You would give us some awake time during the day but you mostly napped and ate. You would sleep 3 hour stretches at night, wake up to eat, and sleep 3 more hours. I must have bragged too much though because your nighttime routine has changed drastically. I blame it on your poor upset tummy. You've been rather gassy lately and all-around upset. From what I read, this is quite normal at this stage because your digestive system is still adjusting to the outside world. You know what, I think we'll manage through this as well.

The first month has also been incredibly amazing. I fell in love harder than I ever thought possible. As soon as I laid eyes on you, I was forever smitten. That feeling has somehow (and I have no idea how it's even possible) gotten more pronounced each day. Pretty soon I think my heart may explode with love for you! We've had some funny times... including the first time you had an "explosion" on the changing table. Luckily, your dad was changing you... but cleaning up was a 2 man job! You also managed to pee on him the same day. We laughed and laughed. You smile quite often, especially after a full belly or when you first wake up in the mornings. I've caught quite a few of them on camera and everyone always tells me how adorable your grin is. You even laughed in your sleep once! I was the only one there but gosh, it sure warmed my heart. :)

Here are some things I always want to remember from month one:

*Chicky pecking- This is what we call it when you're rooting around for food. It's the cutest thing ever, as long as we don't keep you waiting too long!

*Crazy eyes- at the beginning when your eyes were still adjusting to the outside world you would make this silly face and your eyes would look all over the place. We called it crazy eyes.

*You found your voice. In a BIG way! You don't cry... you scream. Loud.

*You went to your first concert at Appalachian Power Park- Craig Morgan and Randy Travis. You slept through it.

Always remember how much you are loved little man. I thank God every night for you... what a wonderful blessing.

Love always,

Mom

  1. I refuse to believe that Nolan is a month old already. Time is going by way too fast!
