Last night was bad. Really, really bad. I started bedtime at 8:30 and he was finally asleep at 10:15. He woke at 12:15 (was comforted and back to sleep), 2:30 (couldn't be comforted- needed to eat), 5 (tried to comfort, ended up feeding and he ate for about a minute and fell asleep), and finally 6:50 (ate). It was brutal.
I texted my mom who suggested I take him to a pediatrician to rule out anything being wrong and then talk to them about it. I knew what they would say- either 1) start cereal (not going to until 6 months) or 2) let him cry.
Being the stubborn person that I am, I decided that I would take matters into my own hands and start reading every website I could find on the issue. And so far, today is better!
At 9:30 he ate and got sleepy. I swaddled him at 10 and put him in his rock and play with his lovey, seahorse, and paci. I didn't rock him because I want him to be able to fall asleep WITHOUT me. Wouldn't you know it that in less than 5 minutes, he was out!? But lo and behold, the 45 minute intruder reared it's ugly head. I simply reinserted the paci a couple times, applied some light pressure to his belly to let him know I was there, and he fell back asleep. He slept for 2 hours. (And so did I!)
He woke up in a great mood, played in his exersaucer while I ate lunch, and got hungry around 12:30 and ate until around 1. He briefly fell asleep eating, but I woke him to burp. He was showing sleepy cues around 1:30 so I repeated the same routine and in about 7 minutes he was asleep! I have my alarm set for 40 minutes after he fell asleep so I can sneak in there in case he needs his paci back when that darn intruder shows up.
So far, so good! I know it's only one day... two naps... BUT I didn't have to let my baby cry! He knows he's safe, and he's SLEEPING WITHOUT ME!!!!!
